Atom N280 or N270 on Asus Eee PC 1005HA

Asus Eee PC 1005HA has 2 optional processor included Intel Atom N280 on Asus Eee PC 1005HA-P and Intel Atom N270 on Asus Eee PC 1005HA-V. The new mobile processor technology comes with smaller size, faster speed, less TDP*, and lower cost and install in Asus Eee PC 1005HA.

Asus chooses Intel Atom N Series for Asus Eee PC 1005HA. Atom N Series has code-named Diamondville that usually use in the Classmate PC Netbook or lower-cost mobile computer.

Atom N280 is a 1.66 GHz clock speed, 667 MHz FSB speed and 512 KB L2 Cache. And Atom N270 is 1.6 GHz clock speed, 533 MHz FSB speed and 512 L2 Cache. The differences of 2 processors are clock speed and FSB speed. So you must beware the FSB speed that must equal or greater than memory clock rate if you replace new memory. Asus Eee PC 1005HA will gain the best performance when you select Atom N 280 and use Super High Performance Mode in Super Hybrid Engine tool that comes with the netbook.

Atom N Series is a 47 million transistor, 26 mm2 die size, 45 nm minimum feature size, 2.5 W maximum TDP* and x86 (32 bit) instruction set. From the specification, the processor uses the smallest lithography at the present time at 45 nm that is advantage of reduced die size and TDP*. So you will observe the overheat issue less than the old technology.

For the application support, you can run on x86 (32 bit) applications only, don’t support x86-64 (64 bit) applications.

Atom N Series supports PBGA437 sockets that is soldered, like northbridges and southbridges, onto a mainboard. Then Asus Eee PC 1005HA doesn’t allow users to replace the new processor.
